This is a beautiful location piece, exhibiting a less common variety of red-orange hematite included scalenohedral Calcite crystals, some twinned, including butterfly twinned crystals with Galena on matrix from the San Giovanni Mine in Italy.  3.63" or 2.5" x 1.93" or 92.2mm x 63.6mm x 49.2mm. Definitely an eye catching piece with some complete twinned crystals. The Calcite has more of a satin luster rather than shiny, no doubt due to the influence of the hematite on the surface of the crystals. These Calcite crystals do show some fluoresce, glowing a pleasing yellow-orange color under UV light. Cleaving and bruising is evident on some of the crystals, however, given the scarcity of this mineral from this locality, this is certainly one to include in your collection or to gift as a gift. 243 grams.
