Selectively cut to show the ends of rod-like structures*, the choice of cut is synchronous with the interests of petrified, silicified wood collectors and lapidary artists. Weighs 1 pound and measures 3.9" x 2.91" x 2.01" or 99.2mm x 74.1mm x 51.2mm.  Due to the natural angle and structure of the piece, it displays wonderfully.  Does not appear to have any fractures.

Petrified palmwood is Texas' designated "Official Texas State Stone." 

*The rod-like structures are also know as sclerenchyma bundles...an important part of the wood ( in this case petrified, silicified palmwood ) that strengthened the tree vertically. Texas was a thick tropical forest 100 million years ago.

This is an outstanding example of petrified palmwood that has been turned into stone (fossilized through the process of permineralization.)
