Celestite Light Steel Blue Terminations Orthorhombic Texas 50g
This is beautiful, less common Celestite / Celestine, rare for the location, with light steel blue-gray terminations, some double-terminated, orthorhombic crystals. 2.23" x 1.8" x 1.19" or 56.6mm x 45.8mm x 30.2mm. The location for this particular occurrence of Celestite is now closed. There was only a very small availability of time to extract the crystals due to the site being where a parking lot was being built near a community college that was undergoing expansion construction. Translucent to mostly translucent, satin to shiny luster, the crystals are well formed; truly attractive, fascinating celestite!
The availability and occurrence of collector quality crystals in Texas is considered nearly void, very scarce, so grab a rarity whenever you can!!
^^^ Contrary to some information on the internet, the terminations, those celestite crystals that present with flattened ends, are not cleaved or altered. The flattened tips are characteristic of how some of the celestite naturally forms in these pieces from Texas.
* A couple of the crystals on one end underside are dinged / nicked. This occurred during the extraction of the often very tight, cramped spaces where these crystals grew. Given the rarity of this occurrence and limited availability, the dings and bruising are more easy to consider negligible and don't take anything away from the overall beauty of the piece. A terrific representative of celestite / celestine for your collection or to give to another mineral enthusiast or crystal collector.
Source / location: Closed. Austin, Travis County, Texas, USA.
50 grams; 2.23" x 1.8" x 1.19" or 56.6mm x 45.8mm x 30.2mm.
