Rare Spinel With Beryl Chrysoberyl Madagascar 182g

This is fascinating, less common cobalt bearing Spinel, with, especially evident when magnified, tiny Beryl and Chrysoberyl crystals on matrix. We use the word "rare" only when it appears truly applicable and appropriate when describing a mineral or occurrence; and this one definitely marks the boxes.  The largest Spinel crystals are approx. .31" or 7.8 mm, characteristic for the type, presenting on both sides of the piece in association both the hexagonal Beryl ( in pockets close to the Spinel ) and flattened or tabular, striated and vitreous Chrysoberyl on matrix. The Spinel presents with interesting growth, some sectional complexity, and cool blue to blue-gray color and luster. Some minor bruising is evident, however, is so small it is visible only under magnification and does not take anything away from the overall great presence and form of the crystals.

182 grams. 3.07" x 1.98" x 1.62" or 78.2mm x 50.4mm x 41.2mm.

Source / location: Itrafo, Ampanivana area, Andrembesoa, Betafo District, Vakinankaratra, Madagascar.
