Stalactite Very Large 19+" Aragonite Calcite Calcium Carbonate Morocco Over 5.5lbs
This is a truly unique and exceptional example of a very large, well formed, well intact and preserved, quality Stalactite from Morocco, presenting with fascinating Aragonite over UV reactive Calcite / calcium carbonate. 19.25 inches x 2.75 inches x 2.3 inches. Over 48 centimeters in length! This specimen is an excellent collector specimen and a distinctive home decor piece. The blossom-like, popcorn-like, fanning and finger-like structures are particularly captivating. Stalactites (and Stalagmites) are examples of Speleothems, a geologic formation that is created by mineral deposits that accumulate over time, hundreds or even thousands of years, in natural caves. A Stalactite tends to hang from the ceiling or sides of a cave and forms by the action of a slowly dripping water-like solution. ( A Stalagmite presents like an upside down Stalactite, slowly formed upwards from the floor of a cave or cavern. ) Observing the curious fold-over formation at the end of this specimen, it is apparent that the Stalactite is not damaged and must have met with some surface within the cavern in which it formed. Weight: 5 pounds, 9 ounces or around 2 and half kilos. Plaster has been carefully applied to one end of this Stalactite to give the specimen the opportunity to be displayed "standing" upright. Not many collectors have a specimen like this in their collections!
