Color
As documented by many peer reviewed studies and publications, including The Mineralogical Record, not only is it valid and appropriate to call this species "pink amethyst", the darker the Pink Amethyst crystals, the more they are considered by many mineral specimen collectors, and the miners that find them, as higher in quality. Though color is of higher regard, it does not solely define the grade or quality of each specimen as a whole. With that stated, we feel that when giving description with accuracy, the description of Pink Amethyst specimens must reference the possible variable color or intensities of pink hues that may be present; pink, pale lilac-pink, zoned peachy-pink, mauve-pink, deep dark pink, and even an almost red-pink. Varying levels of Hematite result in the presenting of varying intensities of pink color in Pink Amethyst.
Crystal Formation - The condition of the facets, faces and terminations (tips / points) of the crystals is also is a very important factor when determining the overall quality of any Pink Amethyst Geode Crystals specimen. The clarity and characteristics of the crystals is another major consideration when determining quality too. The presence of formations like double terminated crystals, rosettes and bridge structures are also representative of higher grade specimens.
