Pink Amethyst geode crystals are a relatively new discovery - a form of Quartz from Patagonia, Argentina.
Color
As documented by many peer reviewed studies and publications, including The Mineralogical Record, the darker the Pink Amethyst crystals, the more they are considered by many mineral specimen collectors, and the miners that find them, as higher in quality. Though color is of highest regard, it does not solely define the grade or quality of each specimen as a whole. With that stated, we feel that when giving description with accuracy, the description of Pink Amethyst specimens must reference the possible variable color or intensities of pink hues that may be present; pink, pale lilac-pink, zoned peachy-pink, mauve-pink, deep dark pink, and even an almost red-pink. Varying levels of Hematite result in the presenting of varying intensities of pink color in Pink Amethyst.
Scientific study reveals that this form of Quartz is closer to the properties of Amethyst than to either Rose Quartz or Pink Quartz and can therefore be appropriately called Pink Amethyst.

+ Note: The photos of this Pink Amethyst Crystal geode were carefully captured in an overcast (indirect sunlight) outdoor setting. The outdoor setting helps present the most accurate color representation. As with all amethyst, it is highly recommended that you do not expose it to bright sunlight - and most certainly not direct sunlight for a long time. Very likely it will pale out by the ultraviolet radiation. Some amethyst pales out really quickly and some very slowly, but you can't tell in advance. Even the intense sunlight behind the window in your living room might do some damage, although the ultraviolet components are mostly filtered out by the window glass. This is actually true for all quartz varieties whose color is irradiation-induced (smoky quartz, citrine, pink quartz).
