Unusual Columnar Poker Chip Calcite Pyrite Chalcopyrite Morocco 226g

This is a truly fascinating, unusual specimen of lustrous, bright white Columnar Poker Chip Calcite from El Hammam, Meknes, Morocco. 3.07" x 2.81" x 1.67" x 77.9mm x 71.4mm x 42.5mm   The dot in the centers of the columns of Calcite is Pyrite and Chalcopyrite. Each Poker Chip like crystal is growing "stacked" on top of another in a columnar fashion. Curiously, the Calcite columns are probably a secondary growth formation. The centers of the hexagonal Calcite columns appear to have been a primary growth of scalenohedral Calcite, which was later covered in fine pyrite and chalcopyrite, and subsequently the columnar calcite grew on top of the other two "layers" of minerals. So, this is a specimen that appears to present with two habits, hexagonal and scalenohedral. As if these features aren't attractive enough, the Calcite glows a nice shade of pink under UV light! This uncommon Calcite specimen will make an excellent addition to your collection.  226 grams.  Click to Buy!
