Amethyst with Hematite inclusion Thunder Bay Moonlight Mine

This is an outstanding Quartz var. Amethyst with Hematite inclusions presenting as a very shiny cluster of crystals due to the high luster emanating from the crystals.

Red Hematite included Quartz, dark purple Amethyst. Exceptional luster and sparkle! The hematite presents speckled both in and on the crystals.

104 grams; 2.56" x 1.86" x 1.4"

Moonlight Mine, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada

Thunder Bay Amethyst exhibits an unique saturation of juicy purple color found at the mine locations on the northern side of Lake Superior in Canada. Sensational crystals like those in this quality mineral specimen present with super glassy faces.

The incredible inclusions of bright orange-red hematite are an awesome, distinctive feature of this type of Thunder Bay District amethyst from the Moon Light Mine. The hematite most often presents from within the crystals rather than as a layer on the crystals.
The crystals in Thunder Bay Amethyst form in tight clusters with gorgeous formations that may present like radiating petals of flowers. The crystals are very showy as they seem to grow as undulating groupings across the surface of the quartz matrix base or on a thin plate of host rock.

Knowing they have something very special in these outstandingly beautiful crystals, in 1975 the citizens of Ontario chose to make Thunder Bay Amethyst their official gemstone.
