Amethyst, often referred to as Thunder Bay Amethyst, exhibits an unique saturation of juicy purple color found at the mine locations on the northern side of Lake Superior in Canada. The incredible inclusions of bright orange-red hematite are an awesome, distinctive feature of this type of Thunder Bay District amethyst from the Panorama Mine. The hematite most often presents from within the crystals rather than as a layer on the crystals.
The crystals in Thunder Bay Amethyst form in tight clusters with gorgeous formations that may present like radiating petals of flowers. The crystals are very showy as they seem to grow as undulating groupings across the surface of the quartz matrix base or on a thin plate of host rock.
