Color
As documented by many peer reviewed studies and publications, including The Mineralogical Record, not only is it valid and appropriate to call this species "pink amethyst", the darker the Pink Amethyst crystals, the more they are considered by many mineral specimen collectors, and the miners that find them, as higher in quality.  Though color is of higher regard, it does not solely define the grade or quality of each specimen as a whole. With that stated, we feel that when giving description with accuracy, the description of Pink Amethyst specimens must reference the possible variable color or intensities of pink hues that may be present; pink, pale lilac-pink, zoned peachy-pink, mauve-pink, deep dark pink, and even an almost red-pink. Varying levels of hematite / iron result in the presenting of varying intensities of pink color in Pink Amethyst.

Crystal Formation - The condition of the facets, faces and terminations (tips / points) of the crystals is also is a very important factor when determining the overall quality of any Pink Amethyst Geode Crystals specimen.  The clarity and characteristics of the crystals, including calcite and analcime crystals, are other major considerations when determining quality too.

^ For further details about the fascinating origin, discovery of Pink Amethyst Crystals Geodes, peer reviewed study and why the appropriate name, Pink Amethyst, was applied to this occurrence of crystals, please allow us to direct you to the publication The Mineralogical Record, March-April 2020, Vol. 51, No. 2.
